TIPS FOR SEARCH JOB
A. MOTIVATION
  1. Regardless the circumstances it is always a challenge to look for a job.
  2. A positive attitude will help you tackle this challenge more effectively increasing your possibilities to succeed. To do so we offer you the following recommendations:
    • Start your search the same way you will do if you were doing a work project: plan it, devote time on it and apply your ingenuity
    • Don’t loose confidence on your opportunity to succeed: always think about your past achievements.
    • If you ever feel frustrated, tired, sad or angry, always remember that frustration is a normal reaction to difficult circumstances.
    • Accept everything as it is and channel your energy to more constructive and positive actions.

B. DECIDE ON YOUR GOAL MARQUET

  1. Review your past jobs experiences and decide which ones were more acceptable.
  2. Define on which industry or organization you will prefer to work. ¿Where do your experiences, studies and interest fit the best?

C. PREPARING FOR THE INTERVIEW

  1. The purpose of the interview is to obtain a job offer. Try to accomplish this purpose.
  2. Before the interview, obtain information about the company and the person who is going to interview you.
  3. Review your Curriculum Vitae in great detail, in order to avoid mistakes during the interview.
  4. Dress up formally. Be moderate in the use of perfumes and colognes. Don’t smoke. Women should comb their hair and put make-up on in a discreet way. Men should not wear either sport socks or shoes, nor light colored ones.
  5. Be punctual; never be late for an interview. If you suffer a setback, call the interviewer.
  6. Greet and sit down in a good posture: maintain your back straight and don’t cross the legs. Show interest in what you are being asked. Listen carefully to every question and be direct in your answer. Unless you are being asked to don’t give too much detail in your answer.
  7. When you talk about your past jobs, mention your duties, but spend more time exposing your achievements.
  8. Don’t try too much to impress the interviewer. Relax and act naturally. Smile and make eye contact.
  9. Your answers must be sincere, even when you are asked to talk about your flaws and weaknesses. NEVER LIE.
  10. Always have present two things that you must never do: 1) Criticize the companies where you have worked or your workmates. 2) Assume a defiant, arrogant or hostile attitude towards the interviewer.

D. SALARY

  • Let the interviewer be the one who proposes the salary topic.
  • Do not compromise yourself with a particular number. It is better to be flexible with the salary and consider the other benefits that the company offers: bonuses, insurance and more.
  • Explore carefully the potential improvements that you could obtain in the company before you make a decision.

E. WHAT SHOULD YOU ASK IN YOUR INTERVIEW

  • ¿Which ones are the main duties of my job?
  • ¿Who is the boss?
  • ¿Is it a new position in the organization? If it is not new, ¿What happened with the person who occupied that position?
  • ¿Will you get some sort of induction or training?
  • ¿What do you expect from the person who is going to be hired?

F. LETTERS

The followings are examples of very useful letters that you can send during this process:

  • Presentation letter. When you answer an ad or mail a curriculum vitae to an organization always send your presentation letter. This is a simple letter that you attach to your curriculum and basically explains the job opening where you wish to apply. This letter also presents the characteristics that make you a worthy candidate.
  • Thank you letter. Approximately 2 days after your interview, write a brief letter to the person that interviewed you thanking for the interview, time and interest dedicated.  You can stress your interest for the job. This letter could distinguish you from other candidates, especially if everybody else has the same qualities (education and experience) as you do.

Note: This letters may be difficult to write but the results demonstrate that it is worthy.
